In the 3rd world, farming is an integral part of everyday life. According to the World Bank, 65% of poor working adults make a living through agriculture (1). Our aim is to empower local farmers - while humbly respecting their skill and wisdom - by teaching and demonstrating sustainable, bio-intensive principles of agriculture that enhance production, and address common issues that negatively impact traditional, rural farms (not enough rain, too much rain, disease, pests, soil infertility, inefficient use of land).

Nashville, TN
Hopewell Gardens is at the forefront of our agricultural efforts here in Tennessee. It's a 1-acre bio-intensive farm that emphasizes in educating college and K-12 students, interns, and volunteers in agricultural concepts that are relevant and readily implementable anywhere you have soil and willing hands to work it. At Hopewell Farms, you can learn everything from how to plant in your own backyard, to the operations necessary for running a small-scale demonstration garden.

Latin America
DEMOSFE is a garden tucked into a rural community that has provided jobs and volunteer opportunities for youth since 2016. One of the greatest points of demonstration of this garden has been the organic approach to enriching the soil and testing new kinds of food that offer a more complete nutrient rich diet for neighbors and others who lack the resources to purchase these foods. The produce of the garden is not only found in agriculture but also in the self confidence of the local youth. By developing the garden and putting themselves into what they do, it requires their spiritual, personal and relational growth. This has been a community haven for youth who would typically be involved in gangs or dangerous activities by providing them with mentorship and important life skills.
East Africa
The Faith Wells Garden is a training ground for farmers and organic gardening demonstration. It's been providing locally grown produce to the community since 2013, which has helped families grow healthier food. The mission of the Faith Wells Garden in Uganda is three-fold: as an outreach center they work with their neighbors who have less resources by teaching them how to farm more efficiently; at the same time it provides the community with a diverse range of fresh, nutritious vegetables that supply locals' needs while also supplying job opportunities for the youth in the area.
“Faith Wells Garden has been a great benefit to the community of the people around us in the way that it has been able to supply organic foodstuff/ organic products through our small outlet called the food tent and we also supply to the local supermarket.Our annual food production ranges from 8 to 13 tons of harvested foodstuff. We are looking forward, also with faith in God, to increase our production this year by at least 30%.”

India
Land is a rare and precious resource to own in urban, densely populated cities like Delhi. Many migrants living in the city come from an agricultural background but are unable to put their skills to use in the massive concrete jungle. This is why learning to experiment with rooftop gardens is a priority in this region, it provides a low-risk way to slowly develop and discover the best ways to grow food with limited resources. Our cooperatives use the garden as an opportunity to learn more about pest control (think monkeys!), nutrition and introducing new foods to their diets.
Southeast Asia
The garden beds located alongside the Tahanan community center are a small reminder of hope that is found in something as delicate as herbs and medicinal plants. The temperamental weather that comes with living on an island can often lead to typhoons and hurricanes that can upend entire villages in a matter of minutes. But the garden beds offer a respite and comforting place where they are cultivating plants used to make a paste to heal a wound or tea to soothe a sore throat. In seasons where the garden thrives, the food is available to share with local inmates, students and widows in the neighborhood.
